Neurological physiotherapy

Neurological physiotherapy is a treatment approach that uses the ideas of neuroplasticity.  This involves rerouting the neural pathways within the brain to help with a wide range of conditions.  When working with a qualified rehabilitation specialist such as within Neurotherapy, the treatment can help with recovery from disease or trauma including nervous system disorders.

It can also help to improve function, ease symptoms and make general wellbeing better.  There is also support with splints and orthotics where needed.

Aquatic physiotherapy

Aquatic physiotherapy was formerly known as hydrotherapy and involves the use of warm water for exercises and rehabilitation.  There is a range of different treatments and exercises that can be done in water that may be difficult or impossible for the patient on land.

One of the most common uses for it is to help with improving mobility after an accident or illness.  It can also be used to assist where a condition has reduced movement or to help with the reduction of pain or muscle spasms.  It is ideal to help build up strength, improve finesses and posture as well as beneficial to mood and motivation for patients with these kinds of conditions.

Functional Electrical Stimulation (FES)

Functional Electrical Stimulation or FES is a treatment used to deal with a condition called drop foot.  This is itself often a symptom of a larger condition, but the FES treatment can help with it and therefore ease other symptoms.

Foot drop can happen due to muscular problems, spinal or brain injuries or leg nerve damage.  The FES treatment can stimulate the nerves and make muscles activate to help lift the foot and avoiding dragging it.  It can also help the body to re-learn how to use the foot and leg properly.
