Neurological Physiotherapy Neurological Conditions

What is Neuro Physiotherapy?

Neuro physiotherapy helps people recover their abilities following disease, trauma or disorders of the nervous system.  It aims to improve function, reduce symptoms, and improve the person’s well-being, confidence and motivation.

Neuro physiotherapy works on the principles of Neuroplasticity, the re-wiring or re-routing of neuronal pathways within the brain.  Research has shown that improvements can made several years after brain injury and can be enhanced by appropriately guided physical management from a suitably qualified rehabilitation specialist.

Treatments available may include:

  • Mobilisation of joints and soft tissues
  • Stretching of muscles that have become stiff and tight
  • Strengthening muscles that have become weak and deconditioned
  • Tailored exercise and conditioning programmes
  • Balance and vestibular rehabilitation
  • Re-education of gait and balance
  • Postural management
  • Functional electrical stimulation  (FES)
  • Medical Acupuncture
  • Aquatic physiotherapy
  • Advice on specialist seating, wheelchairs and sleepsystems
  • Orthotics and splinting

Treatment options to suit you

Individuals may need a combination of treatments to help address their difficulties.  Recommendations for future input and an estimate of possible costs involved would be provided following the initial assessment.

The assessment or future treatments may be delivered in clinic or in the persons home depending on what suits then best.

“Gerry Harlow from Neurotherapy Ltd is an extremely valued colleague who has added immense value to the multi-disciplinary teams I’ve worked in along side him. His communication, advice and support has been of huge value. He clearly has a huge commitment to delivering high level neuro-rehabilitation and I would recommend him to colleagues and referrers.”
